NIGHTS AT THE RETREAT Continues Development - Jan-March 2023

by Thomas Gualtieri

After a successful development phase in 2021, Tom & playwright/director Heather Hill continue their exploration of NIGHTS AT THE RETREAT, the multi-angled story of the men and women who attended Plato’s Retreat, the hot-spot of the heterosexual, swinger nightlife. Solo Show Masterclass and THAT PLAY (RAW) - August 13-20, 2018

by Thomas Gualtieri

Tom will team up with Cheryl King (founder of Stage Left Studio which has now become Stage Left/Sonoma) to teach a series of writing workshops for playwright/performers in the development of solo theatre at Stage Left's new space in beautiful Sonoma County.

The first week-long workshop will culminate in performances of THAT PLAY: A SOLO MACBETH on Aug 19/20. Workshop students and others by private invitation only will get a chance to see the application of techniques and theories discussed during the workshop.

An additional benefit performance for Stage Left/Sonoma will take place on Aug 27. Stage Left/Sonoma is still undergoing renovation and construction but the rustic setting is perfect for a stripped down version of THAT PLAY: no sets, no lights, just storytelling.

THAT PLAY is directed by Heather Hill and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award during its run at Stage Left Studio in 2012/2013.

"That Summer: A Fantasia on Family" premieres at Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus

by Thomas Gualtieri

The world premiere of a new work commissioned by PGMC: That Summer: A Fantasia on Family. The cantata is in three movements, with music by Andrea Clearfield and libretto by Tom Gualtieri. Drawing on interviews and transcripts, and scored for men’s chorus, piano, and percussion, That Summer dramatizes the evolution of a community coming to terms with something we have never had to face: the dream of a family in a society which, until now, has not legally acknowledged our relationships. We’ll also have other songs focusing on family, friendship and love.
